The stewards interviewed New Approach’s trainer Jim Bolger and jockey Kevin Manning and asked them what their intentions were with regard to getting the colt to the start in tomorrow’s Vodafone Derby.

The stewards issue a notice stating: “Mr Bolger requested that New Approach would be placed last in the parade and be led by a pony from there to the start. He assured the Stewards that he would not delay the start and that New Approach would hack behind the other runners, led by the pony.

“Manning confirmed that he would ensure that he arrived at the start at the same time as the other runners. The Stewards accepted Mr Bolger’s request and his undertaking, and told them both that it would be unacceptable to delay the race.”
