Godolphin completes double

Race 6 - Help For Heroes Surrey Stakes (Listed) - winner quotes

IGUAZU TO STEP UP IN CLASS

The Godolphin team secured a near 11/1 double on the opening day of the 2008 Derby Festival at Epsom Downs when 13/8 favourite Iguazu Falls stretched clear of the field in the Listed Help For Heroes Surrey Stakes to score by an easy four lengths.

Under Frankie Dettori, the son of Pivotal hit the front less than two furlongs from home and showed a scintillating turn of foot to race clear before being eased at the line.

Winning trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: “Frankie was very happy with Iguazu Falls. We’re delighted with the result, he’s an improving horse. It was great to see him win a Listed race and maybe now we’ll step him up to Group Three.

“The horse showed a good turn of foot and that he has plenty of speed. He really quickened away from them today and we’ll try to keep him over the same distance (seven furlongs).

“We’ve no immediate plans, I want to see how he comes out of the race. We’ll keep our options open with him.”

Meanwhile Simon Crisford, racing manager for Godolphin, added: “We’re really, really pleased because he was running back very quickly from his last race so there’s always a doubt that it can have an effect on them. But he didn’t show any signs of that today, which was great.”
