Celebrating the Diamond Jubilee
The Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II is an international celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the thrones of seven countries.
The Queen came to the throne on 6th February 1952 and her coronation took place on 2nd June 1953. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25 years) in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2002. The only other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1897.
The 2012 Diamond Jubilee celebrations will centre on an extended weekend from 2nd – 5th June. An extra bank holiday to mark the event will be enjoyed in the United Kingdom.
The 2012 Investec Derby is the first engagement of Diamond Jubilee central weekend celebrations.
